Sprinkler System
Read Psalm 1:1–6
For years, Gretchen’s lawn was the worst one in the neighborhood. Though she set out the sprinkler when she remembered and kept it on for hours at a time, she could not get her yard as green as those on either side.
It was not until Gretchen began thinking about selling her house that she had the lawn fertilized and an automatic sprinkler system installed. Though the cost was painful, the new system gave her a green lawn by the end of the summer. And when it came time to sell, the lawn was one of the strongest selling points of her home.
Each of us is like Gretchen’s lawn. We need regular, consistent watering by God’s Word in order for our spirits to be lush and green. If we only open the Bible every now and then, we will remain patchy and weak, but if we read God’s Word daily, we will thrive.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers (Psalm 1:3).
Prayer Suggestion: God, help me to be disciplined in my devotions so Your Word can water my soul.
