St. Louis Church
St. Louis Church
Labor Day Camping Trip
On Labor Day weekend, several of the St. Louis church family went camping at Babler State Park, located west of St. Louis. We had a lovely group site, far away from any other campers. Thankfully, we had a large covered concrete area with a cozy fire pit right next to it, because after we went to bed the first night, the rain just poured! But we were, for the most part, warm, dry, and comfortable.
The rain finally stopped on Saturday and we had a really great time of fellowship and good food. There is something very relaxing and comforting about watching a fire and visiting, with no clock or timetable to worry about. The kids had a blast playing in the mud, and there was a lot of it! We enjoyed a scrumptious barbeque supper with all the trimmings.
On Sunday, many of the St. Louis church family, Sunday school young people, and visitors came to the park for an outdoor meeting. There were about forty-five of us in all. We had a great time singing and then listened to a sermon given by Jeff Downey, which was centered on the song “How Great Thou Art.” Jeff talked about God’s greatness and His creation. After a short time of personal prayer with bowed heads, it was time to set out the food. We had a good meal of barbecued pork, homemade potato salad, and other goodies. We enjoyed our meal and then the kids had a time to play. Soon it was just the small group of campers again.
It was a great weekend. We played games, went bike riding, had good conversation, delicious food, and a chance to get close to God’s nature. There is nothing quite like a good camping experience!
