- Timothy was one of the most prominent leaders of the early church. Would not that be strong in all areas.
- He was young, shy and ill, but was cooperative follower of Paul and his work.
- In this young leader, the apostle Paul wrote two of his espístolas. His mother was Jewish and his Greek father (Acts 6.1).
- Timothy had testified in his town and also out of her home (Acts 16.2).
- Timothy was educated in the light of the Scriptures from childhood (2 Tim 3. 14,15).
- Both your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice were women committed to God and they learned to have Timothy unfeigned faith from his youth (2 Timothy 1:5).
- Philippians Chapter 2. 19 to 24, the apostle Paul tells us some features of this important spiritual leader.
Let's see what these brands:
1. Timothy, a leader who looks after the interests of the people.
- The leader is a servant. He does not seek its own interests, but cares for the interests of the people of God.
- Timothy not looked after the interests of the people to achieve this with some personal favor.
- He was not wearing them. His relationship with people was not utilitarian.
- The apostle Paul says, "Because I have nobody like him, who sincerely look after your interests" (Phil. 2:20).
- Jesus was the greatest of all leaders and he said he came not to be served but to serve.
- When the disciples disputed among themselves who was the greatest among them, Jesus took a basin and towel and washed the feet of dicípulos.
- Leadership Christian influence is through selfless service.
- Timothy was a man of God. His life was centered in Christ. He was committed to the Scriptures, faithful to Jesus Christ and dedicated to the church.
- Timothy did not seek glory for himself. He did not build monuments to his own name. He sought in the interests of Christ church.
- Paul denounces the fact that there are men in the church who sought their own interests, but Timothy, unlike these, he sought the interests of Christ.
- Let's read the record of the Apostle: "... because they all seek what is his own, not those of Christ Jesus" (Phil. 2:21).
- Timothy had zeal for life and also the doctrine. He was a man consistent in theology and practice.
- His character was proven.
- The Apostle writes: "And know his proven character ..." (Phil. 2:22).
- Timothy was a man beyond reproach, who had testified in and outside the church.
- A leader's life is the life of his leadership. Leadership is not just performace, but above all, integrity.
- John Maxwell defines leadership as influence. A leader influences ever: for good or for evil.
- Leadership is never neutral. A leader is blessing or curse.
- Timothy was a blessing because it endorsed his life teaching.
4. Timothy, a leader devoted to the gospel.
- Timothy was not a leader subservient to men.
- He served the gospel. Paul writes: "... because it served the gospel with me, as son to father" (Phil. 2:22).
- He was a servant of God, dedicated to the service of the gospel.
A servant of God does not submit to the whims of men.
Serving God is not dependent on praise nor fear the criticism.
A servant of God does not walk behind the spotlight.
- To serve God is to serve the gospel, is to put the service life of the kingdom of God in proclaiming and teaching the gospel.
- We are preparing for an important election of officers in our church.
- What we look to the testimony of Timothy and seek God in the direction in choosing our spiritual leadership.
